Antique sterling silver 1 pint tankard, hallmarked from Newcastle in 1757 with the makers mark being that of John Langlands I.
In excellent condition with good clear hallmarks to base and makers mark also stamped to the underside of the handle.
The raised decoration will have been carried out a little later and probably dates to the same time as the actual inscription. The inscription reads ‘ Awarded by The Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland to Mr William Walker Ardhuncart for A Report of Experiments in deep ploughing 1858’.
It measures 105mm in diameter at base, 82mm diameter at top rim and stands 115mm tall.
A super antique piece of Newcastle silver.
