A very rare Scottish Provincial silver mounted cowrie shell snuff box, carrying the (LA) mark of Laurence Aitchison of Falkirk, this mark is given by The Incorporation of Edinburgh as unidentified and possibly Aitchison’s mark, we think its 100% the mark of Aitchisons when you add it to the inscription which shows it was presented to the Clerk at Carron (probably Carron Works) which is in Falkirk.
Natural lines on the shell and a very striking colourway, silver is all in excellent order.
A very rare item and not all an everyday occurence to find something by a Falkirk maker and we are located in Falkirk!.
It measures 72x52mm.
