This is a Russian Antique Silver Snuff Box (84 standard) with the word “Souvenir” on the lid.
It has just a couple of very minor edge dinks which are very minimal but otherwise is in excellent condition.
It measures 70 mm wide by 47 mm deep.
The term “84 standard” refers to the purity of the silver. Russian standardised hallmarking, as we know it today, stems from a decree of Tsar Peter the Great in 1700. While in the process of reforming the Russian monetary system, the production of silversmiths was fixed to four standard silver purities, these being 96, 90, 84 and 62.
