Description
Pair of sterling silver tea caddy spoons, both marked 925 and both in excellent condition and of good weight.
These are a matching pair Sterling Silver Caddy Spoons, 20th Century marked 925, the exact age is unknown.
They each measure 74 mm in length.
Compared to other spoons, caddy spoons have shorter handles and shallower bowls. The spoon handle is shorter and, as a result, the spoon can be stored with the tea in a tea caddy. The shallow bowl is to accurately measure out the right amount of tea leaves. Caddy spoons often feature detailing and naturalistic engraving such as that favoured during the regency period when tea was imported in huge quantities for well to do families.
Traditionally made of silver, caddy spoons were in common use in the 19th century, when tea was a more expensive commodity.
