Large English sterling silver cigarette box very much in the Art Deco style.
Hallmarked from London in 1949 with the makers mark being that of Mappin & Webb.
In very nice order with just 3 or 4 small dinks (all very minor and the box needs to be moved around in the light to pick up on these.
The wooden interior does have some staining, whilst the silver is quite clean there are some stubborn marks that will require a more in-depth polish (mostly on the lid).
Measures 178x127x64mm.

This large Art Deco sterling silver cigarette box was crafted by Mappin & Webb in London, 1949. It features a sleek rectangular form with engine-turned decoration, characteristic of the Art Deco era. In addition, the box stands on four stepped bracket feet, adding to its geometric appeal.
The hinged lid opens to reveal a cedar wood interior, designed to hold cigarettes of varying sizes. The interior also includes a removable divider for added organization. The box is hallmarked on the underside, confirming its sterling silver composition and the maker’s mark.
Its substantial weight and quality craftsmanship reflect Mappin & Webb’s reputation for fine silverware. In addition, while originally intended for cigarettes, the box’s elegant design makes it suitable for various uses today.
Its combination of functionality and decorative appeal makes it a desirable addition to any collection. As a result, this piece exemplifies the enduring style and quality of Mappin & Webb’s mid-20th-century designs
