Large sterling silver spittoon by Hunt & Roskell, hallmarked from London in 1894.
In very nice order, just one small hairline which measures 3mm at the top edge, no movement on it and appears only to the top view.
Hunt & Roskell who were the holders of several royal warrants, including that of Queen Victoria and were the most prestigious London retailer from the mid-19th century through to the early 20th century. The company was first founded by Paul Storr who was the most important English silversmith of the Regency period.
A spittoon of this size made in silver was more intended to be used at wine tasting events and not an everyday one you may see in a saloon.
It measures 281mm across the top rim and becomes wider as it moves down to the centre, stands 157mm tall.
