English antique sterling silver snuff box by Gervase Wheeler, hallmarked from Birmingham in 1840.We are calling it a small snuff box but on close inspection we believe this was once a vinaigrette and the grill has been removed which would have been hinged at the back where the main box hinge is, in this area it would very much appear that the grill was removed on purpose to make it a small snuff box or a pill box.
Gorgeous decoration to top and bottom and to the outer edges/sides.
Retains its gilt interior.
A few tiny dinks on lid, these are super tiny and only when moved around in the light can you sometimes see them on the gilt inside, nothing can be seen from the outside view at all (very very minor).
Measures 47x22x8mm.
