English antique sterling silver snuff box by a maker you do not often come across. Hallmarked from Birmingham 1824 (we think, date letter is a little difficult to determine), makers mark is that of Postans & Tye (William Postans &George Tye). The lid has a little spring on it almost as though an engraving had been taken out but obviously not as the decoration would have been destroyed, the outer top is almost another skin on top of another making the box close amazingly tightly, a couple of small dinks to the gilt, very minimal and nothing can be seen on the outside of the box. A very attractive box nicely detailed on the outer decoration. Measures 66x39x15mm.
