English antique sterling silver caddy spoon with shell decoration to bowl, hallmarked from 1790 but no makers mark.
Antique Silver Caddy Spoon, London 1790, hallmarks are a little worn, duty mark is barely visible. No loss of detailing to the bowl on either side and its in excellent clean order with a small inscription to handle.
This spoon measures 79 mm in length.
Compared to other spoons, caddy spoons have shorter handles and shallower bowls. The spoon handle is shorter and, as a result, the spoon can be stored with the tea in a tea caddy. The shallow bowl is to accurately measure out the right amount of tea leaves.
