Scottish antique sterling silver vinaigrette with the pierced internal grill decorated with Scottish Thistles.
Scottish antique sterling silver vinaigrette with the pierced internal grill decorated with Scottish Thistles.
It is hallmarked from Edinburgh in 1834 with the makers mark being that of Charles Henry Farquharson who is much better known for making flatware than cutlery.
Engraving on cartouche was carried out in 1886.
There are a couple of small stubborn marks below the cartouche at the front edge of the box, the base has a couple of very minor dinks which have proved difficult to capture but these are very minor.
Of good size and weight, measures 42x30x10mm.
Most vinaigrette’s were from Birmingham makers and some London so nice to see one from a Scottish maker.
